My Father’s Love

My Father’s Love is an original song written by Harry and Ben Love. It was released on Friday February 5th on all streaming platforms. The following is what Ben Love had to say about the writing and recording process that led into this heartfelt song.

“It’s a song I wrote 2-3 years ago most likely after hearing Romans 8:38-39 spoken about in a sermon, or mentioned in a song, but the original verses were full of John Tompkins-isms like “I AM Baptized,” and “the very definition of insanity.” The quotes were from John talking about how the enemy tries to get us to believe that we’ll never be enough, and that he tries the same stuff time and time again, and all we need to do is tell him to “kick rocks!”

The original started out slower than the final recording, and the chorus started to sound too much like “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers 😂. So I sped it up and changed the cadence a little, and just sat on the song for a few years. After showing Harry my idea for a previous release, “The Old Me,” I was confident enough in this song to make a quick demo so I could share it with Harry to see what he thought. I’ll let you in on a secret, the demo was terrible.

One night after recording bass I pulled the demo up and he really liked it. He even sang the chorus on his own without the demo, and then told me he liked it again. A few months later he shared a demo of the song with us in the band chat, and first thing I’d noticed were the changes he’d made. The verses had very little of what I’d written, the song was a tiny bit slower than the demo, and the lyrics were a little different in the chorus and the bridge, but… the song was so much better because of those changes.

If you remember my post about the last song I brought to the table, I hated the changes Harry made to that one, and it took forever for that one to grow on me. With this song, I immediately recognized how much better the song was because of the changes Harry had made to it. The lyrics weren’t saying the exact same thing in the bridge as in the chorus, the verses were all but completely scrapped and rewritten, and actually had a singable melody. Verse 2 melody and cadence sounds too much like a big name cover song (I’ll let you try to guess that one). But again, it’s a much better song because a good song had a better songwriter work on it.

There’s nothing listed in this song, nor anything not listed in this song that can separate you from My Father’s Love.

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭38‬-‭39‬”

We hope that this song encourages you to walk closer with Jesus and to tell the world about His unfailing and unconditional love.

God Bless You!
